In My Mailbox (14)

*In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren* In My Mailbox gives bloggers a chance to show each other
what books they got for the week. It's a very exciting and fun thing to do. Here is what I got for the week:

Bought/Review/Won:

Burned (House of Night series #7)
Summary: When friends stop trusting each other, Darkness is there to fan the flames….Things have turned black at the House of Night. Zoey Redbird’s soul has shattered. With everything she’s ever stood for falling apart, and a broken heart making her want to stay in the Otherworld forever, Zoey’s fading fast. It’s seeming more and more doubtful that she will be able pull herself back together in time to rejoin her friends and set the world to rights. As the only living person who can reach her, Stark must find a way to get to her. But how? He will have to die to do so, the Vampyre High Council stipulates. And then Zoey will give up for sure. There are only 7 days left… Enter BFF Stevie Rae. She wants to help Z but she has massive problems of her own. The rogue Red Fledglings are acting up, and this time not even Stevie Rae can protect them from the consequences. Her kinda boyfriend, Dallas, is sweet but too nosy for his own good. The truth is, Stevie Rae’s hiding a secret that might be the key to getting Zoey home but also threatens to explode her whole world.In the middle of the whole mess is Aphrodite: ex-Fledgling, trust-fund baby, total hag from Hell (and proud of it). She’s always been blessed (if you could call it that) with visions that can reveal the future, but now it seems Nyx has decided to speak through her with the goddess’s own voice, whether she wants it or not. Aphrodite’s loyalty can swing a lot of different ways, but right now Zoey’s fate hangs in the balance.
Three girls… playing with fire… if they don’t watch out, everyone will get Burned.

Awakened (House of Night #8)
Summary: Exonerated by the Vampyre High Council and returned to her position of High Priestess at Tulsa’s House of Night, Neferet has sworn vengeance on Zoey. Dominion over Kalona is only one of the weapons she plans to use against Z. But Zoey has found sanctuary on the Isle of Skye and is being groomed by Queen Sgiach to take over for her there. Being Queen would be cool, wouldn’t it? Why should she return to Tulsa? After losing her human consort, Heath, she will never be the same – and her relationship with her super-hot-warrior, Stark, may never be the same either…And what about Stevie Rae and Rephaim? The Raven Mocker refuses to be used against Stevie Rae, but what choice does he have when no one in the entire world, including Zoey, would be okay with their relationship? Does he betray his father or his heart?In the pulse-pounding 8th book in the bestselling House of Night series, how far will the bonds of friendship stretch and how strong are the ties that bind one girl’s heart?

Meanwhile, Finn’s oathbrother Keiro and his friend Attia are still trapped inside Incarceron. They are searching for a magical glove, which legend says Sapphique used to escape. To find it, they must battle the prison itself, because Incarceron wants the glove too.

Book Review: Firelight by Sophie Jordan

Hello everyone! I hope everyone has had a great time since I was gone and I am really glad to be back. While I was gone I finished Firelight by Sophie Jordan. Here is my review and I hope you enjoy it:

***
Plot: A hidden truth.
Mortal enemies.
Doomed love.
Marked as special at an early age, Jacinda knows her every move is watched. But she longs for freedom to make her own choices. When she breaks the most sacred tenet among her kind, she nearly pays with her life. Until a beautiful stranger saves her. A stranger who was sent to hunt those like her. For Jacinda is a draki—a descendant of dragons whose greatest defense is her secret ability to shift into human form.
Forced to flee into the mortal world with her family, Jacinda struggles to adapt to her new surroundings. The only bright light is Will. Gorgeous, elusive Will who stirs her inner draki to life. Although she is irresistibly drawn to him, Jacinda knows Will's dark secret: He and his family are hunters. She should avoid him at all costs. But her inner draki is slowly slipping away—if it dies she will be left as a human forever. She'll do anything to prevent that. Even if it means getting closer to her most dangerous enemy.
Mythical powers and breathtaking romance ignite in this story of a girl who defies all expectations and whose love crosses an ancient divide.

Review: This book was a lot different from any other book I have ever read, but it did have many problems that didn't make it as great as I wished it could be. I do like the cover with the bright colors and the amazing text, but the characters inside the book that weren't very enjoyable to read. Jacinda was a brave, smart main character, but she couldn't make up her mind which was the biggest problem with her that was hard to read. I did like how she described her past and how it showed in her present. I also liked Will, but at times he didn't seem like he was explaining himself and hiding to many secrets when it was time to tell them all. The characters I disliked the most was Jacinda's family, they seemed stubborn and cruel almost every time they where around Jacinda. I did enjoy the history of the draki and the hunters, and I also enjoyed the writing style that made me not stop reading. I give this book a 3.5/5.

Book Review: Paranormalcy by Kiersten White

Hello everyone! Today I finished reading Paranormalcy by Kiersten White. Here is the review and I hope you enjoy:

~~~~~
Plot:
Evie’s always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she’s falling for a shape-shifter, and she’s the only person who can see through paranormals’ glamours.
But Evie’s about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.
So much for normal.
Review: I really enjoy the cover of this book, but the inside of the book is completely different and not what I thought it was going to be. Sadly I didn't enjoy this book as much as I wanted to. Evie was a great character to read at the beginning of the book, but mostly the whole book she was either crying or annoying to read. Lend, who is the shape-shifter in this book was one of my favorite characters because I thought he was very sweet and mysterious at the beginning of the book. Reth was the ex-boyfriend, who I disliked the most and was annoyed the most because of the random points he joined in the book. Lish was the best friend to Evie and was another great character and I really wished I could read more about her because I enjoyed her personality a lot. I didn't enjoy the writing style because it seemed at times that the author would repeat the same thing she wrote two chapters ago and would stop repeating it until the end of the book. Over all I give this book a 3/5.
Book Review: Please Ignore Vera Dietz by A.S. King
Hello everyone! Today I finished reading Please Ignore Vera Dietz by A.S. King, which is the same author who wrote The Dust of 100 Dogs. Here and my review and I hope you enjoy:
*****
Plot: Vera’s spent her whole life secretly in love with her best friend, Charlie Kahn. And over the years she’s kept a lot of his secrets. Even after he betrayed her. Even after he ruined everything.
So when Charlie dies in dark circumstances, Vera knows a lot more than anyone—the kids at school, his family, even the police. But will she emerge to clear his name? Does she even want to?
Edgy and gripping, Please Ignore Vera Dietz is an unforgettable novel: smart, funny, dramatic, and always surprising.
Review: This book was filled with suspense, emotion, drama, lies, love, truth, and no destiny. It showed me that there is a world out there that is cruel, but there are promises and the only way to gain those promises is to wait, and hope them come. Also to follow your heart and head, but never stop listening to either of them. Vera was a powerful character that did some bad things, but in the end she found herself and did the right thing. Before he died, Charlie was a child that didn't do what he was told, smoked, drank, and ate pieces of McDonald's napkins after writing on them. He was a interesting, mysterious character that I loved and hated as much as Vera did. There was side characters like Vera's dad, Jenny, Bill, James, and many more that were amazing to read about because of who they probably didn't mean to, but they did show different ways of life and how to live it in different ways. This book was gripping and I could not put it down, until I finished with tears in my eyes and laughing like there is no tomorrow. Also I will never look at pickles the same way ever again.
Waitng on Wednesday: Desires of the Dead
Desires of the Dead (The Body Finder #2)
Kimberly Derting
Young Adults
Feb. 15, 2011
I adored the first book called The Body Finder. Violet and Jay are just a amazing couple and the action in that happened in the last book was fantastic. I loved trying to figure who the villain was and who he/she was going to hurt next. I also liked learning more about Violet's power and how she can hear the bodies calling to her with their echo. I am look forward to reading more about her and Jay, and what can possibly happen next that cold be worse then the first problem they had to go through together.
From Goodreads:
The missing dead call to Violet. They want to be found.
When Violet Ambrose's morbid ability to sense the echoes of those who've been murdered leads her to the body of a young boy, she draws the attention of the FBI. She is reluctantly pulled into an investigation that will endanger more than just her secret...but her relationship and possibly her life as well.
Book Review: Full Dark, No Stars by Stephen King
Hello everyone.Today I finished reading Full Dark, No Stars by Stephen King. This book contains four story stories that all have one thing in common. Hope you enjoy this review:
++++++
Plot: A new collection of four never-before-published stories from Stephen King. 1922 The story opens with the confession of Wilfred James to the murder of his wife, Arlette, following their move to Hemingford, Nebraska onto land willed to Arlette by her father. Big Driver Mystery writer, Tess, has been supplementing her writing income for years by doing speaking engagements with no problems. But following a last-minute invitation to a book club 60 miles away, she takes a shortcut home with dire consequences. Fair Extension Harry Streeter, who is suffering from cancer, decides to make a deal with the devil but, as always, there is a price to pay. A Good Marriage Darcy Anderson learns more about her husband of over twenty years than she would have liked to know when she stumbles literally upon a box under a worktable in their garage.
Review: These stories contained some of the most gruesome tales I have ever read, but at the same time I enjoyed reading them because I have never read anything by Stephen King and because if these stories I wish to read more of what this amazing man has created. This book starts in 1922 with a farmer named Wilf and this book ends with a woman that can't believe what she has found out about her husband. The writing was interesting in some stories and a bit boring in others, but I did enjoy reading every character from each story. My favorite story was the last called Good Marriage because of the gripping words that Stephen makes and how the wife deals with the truth about this man she thought she loved. Over all I give these four amazing stories a 4/5.
